Writing a biographical statement on a Web page is difficult for
any artist.
Listing events and awards won’t speak of the quality of my
paintings as much as the actual viewing of them.
The really important things in life are often found in emotions,
the feelings you have when you see the work – your memories
about a certain afternoon while walking in the mountains, or the
feeling you get when you look to the West at that everlasting desert
sunset. Light is unhurried and radiant and enduring. George Villiers
said it best in the quote below.
This is the quality I try to impart in my painting.
“Dash as we might down the gray road in front of us, we could
never dash out of that golden afternoon. It was all around us, and
about us, enveloping us, touching our face and hands with glory.
The sun was complete master of the situation. Everything was bathed
equally and evenly in its superb, unhurried radiance. And my spirit
rejoiced. This, I said, will last forever, this golden afternoon--not
in time splintered by man and measured by clocks; but in eternity,
as quality, a part of the everlasting background of things...For
it reveals to us the God of all joy”
George Villiers – 1938
A third generation artist, born and raised in Colorado, I grew
up learning to listen to the eternal eminence of life so particular
to high country living.
It is the gift of quiet attentiveness that I try to impart to my
many students, who learn how an artist becomes a conduit between
imagination and image.
While I love working in the studio, I try to roam the West whenever
I can to remain connected to my inspiration.
For those who like lists and numbers, I’ve included the following
